THERAPY FOR VITILIGO (LEUCODERMA)

Vitiligo occurs when pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) die or stop producing melanin. Melanin the pigment that gives skin, hair and eyes colour. The involved patches of skin become lighter or white. There is no specific reason as to why any one can get vitiligo. It can be a disorder in which the immune system attacks and destroys the melanocytes in the skin. A trigger event can start vitiligo in some people such as sunburn, stress or exposure to industrial chemicals. Family history can also be a reason for vitiligo. Vitiligo occurs when the cells that produce melanin die or stop functioning. The main sign of vitiligo is patchy loss of skin colour. Usually, the discoloration first shows on sun-exposed areas, such as the hands, feet, arms, face and lips. Allopathy offers palliative measures, but no cure to vitiligo and always the treatment come with severe irreversible side effects.

In Ayurveda an imbalance in Vata and bhrajaka pitta is the cause behind vitiligo. The other reasons include consumption of incompatible food, suppression of vomiting, excess of food intake, too much consumption of sour, sweet and pungent food, high intake of curd and fish.

HOW TO APPLY

• Take a little of oil in a cotton ball and apply in the affected area and massage without applying any pressure and expose to sunlight for 10 minutes.
• Recommended to apply very gently. Use a fresh cotton ball each time and wash hand before and after use.
• Use it 2 to 3 times a day and each time after bath and shower.
• Avoid wearing tight fitting clothes.
