Pyorrhea is caused by bacterial infection in oral cavity. Poor oral hygiene is the primary cause of pyorrhea which also aggravates with hyperacidity. Untreated pyorrhea can cause diabetes, heart disease, respiratory infections, pancreatic problems etc. According to Ayurveda pyorrhea is caused because of vitiation of rasa and rakta dhatus, which results in hampered absorption. The toxins assimilate and gets deposited in gums and oral cavities and cause distress to the patient. In most conventional cases pyorrhea is treated with antibiotics and extraction of bad tooth which are not seen as a permanent cure and causes further damage to the patient’s body.
